Living room with voice-controlled smart home

"Alexa, movie time" is fun — but voice is most useful for small things: a light while carrying shopping, the AC from bed, the music in the kitchen.

Voice assistants are now common in UAE homes. Connected to a professional smart home system, they can control one device, a group of devices or the whole house with one phrase.

Which assistants and languages

Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple Siri can all be integrated with the major platforms we install. All three support English, and Arabic support is available — with differences in dialects and features between assistants and countries. Russian is supported by some assistants and devices too. The language you use for the assistant affects which device names it understands, so we name rooms and scenes accordingly.

Where voice really helps

  • Hands full: "turn on the kitchen lights".
  • In bed: "set the bedroom to 23 degrees".
  • For elderly family members who find apps difficult.
  • Group commands: "good night" switches off lights, closes shades and arms the alarm.

Where voice doesn't replace buttons

Guests, staff and children rarely use voice. A good keypad by the door is still the fastest way to switch a scene. Voice is an extra layer, not the main control.

Naming matters

"Living room" and "family room" confuse assistants if they sound alike. We create a clear naming plan for rooms and scenes, so commands are recognised reliably.

Privacy

Voice assistants listen for a wake word and send recordings to the cloud. Place them where you're comfortable, use the physical mute button in private areas, and review the assistant's privacy settings. Critical functions like door locks can be excluded from voice control.

Questions clients ask most

Does voice control work without the internet?

Mainstream voice assistants need the internet. Keypads, panels and schedules keep working without it.
